Are you think of a legendary fine-dining experience in London? Hoxton’s the
place to be!
If there was any
London Square which became the victim of its own success, it would definitely
be 8 Hoxton Square. The whole spot has now become very themed ever since it
became a popular tourist spot but its sweet serenity is still captivating to
this date. The compact terraces bounce sunlight across the cobbled streets,
jazz bars mingling with Texaco garages and Bill’s and a Byron right in the
middle. The pace of the tourists here is blissfully slow.
In the heart of the area lies 8 Hoxton Square. It is a restaurant that goes far beyond the other restaurants in the Hoxton shoreditch. Let us walk you through the great culinary experience that we enjoyed here.

I am first entertained
by focaccia that had nibbles of cured pork embedded into it. You have to
believe me when I say that this what I’ve always imagined breakfast in Heaven
to taste like. A certain portion of the whole meal bread was totally unsalted
but it’s apparently the Florentine way of having bread. They don’t salt the
bread.
The starter really paved a very optimistic path. It was mighty, squid-y, and a toss of fresh prawns on a warm salad of fennel, garlic, broad beans and herbs. Everything that’s green and has the ability to put you in a good mood with its scent was on that plate. I dug into the yellow-fin tuna with a side of seasoned fennel leaves, grapes, and cubes of cucumber. The dish was delicate and harmonious.
Then I moved towards the vegetarian options. I dug into the little caramelized shallot tarts with goat’s curd, a heap of rocket leaves, artichoke, and asparagus that had the flavors waltzing with each other. The buttery pastry teased the sweetness of the onions, whereby the curd elevated the dish from indulgent to artistic. I felt like my taste buds were royalty.
I am not disguising anything about the dish. There is no deliberate obscuring the meatless aspect of the dish. The way the restaurant’s dishes are designed goes to show that the kitchen trusts its ingredients. I was moved because of how outstanding one dish after the other was.
Let us now move
towards the cod cheeks. These pan fried cod cheeks were wrapped in pancetta.
They rested on top of something that shared the texture and viscosity of jam
but was infused with flaked almonds, red-pepper mulch, grilled pepper and
guindilla chili. One could say that there was a sexual chemistry between the
heat and sweetness of the dish itself. The chemistry was grounded, however, by
the enriched cod cheeks. Iberian pancetta just has its way of elevating
anything that reaches it.
I then moved towards having chips with aioli
and a salad with nasturtium leaves. The food was singing and I was enjoying the
melody. Not only is this restaurant special, it’s wholesome.
Dessert was nothing
short of splendid. The pistachio cake was heavenly nutty and electrified
appropriately with lemon. Vanilla ice cream was served alongside it, with
pistachio brittle on top. The chef is a true genius. The combination worked
brilliantly!
There was, however,
one item subconsciously cornered while I was picking through my pistachio cake
– a miniature flat peach. Had it not been for the kind owner’s insistence, I
would not have ventured to try it. It wasn’t because I didn’t like peaches but
just because I thought of it as a regular peach. Turns out, the fruit had been
baked with tarragon – it was wonderful.
If you want a culinary experience of a lifetime
without spending hundreds of bucks, then let your taste-buds seize the day at 8 Hoxton Square.
